Chef Biography

Aimo Moroni was born in 1934 in Pescia in Tuscany, Italy and was trained as a chef by his grandmother, Nunzia.  Mamma Nunzia was a chef in noble homes in France and Florence, Italy before opening her restaurant in 1937 called Da Aimo.

After finishing school and after the war, Aimo went to Milan in 1946 to seek his fortune and apprenticed at Restaurant Da Gioacchino.  In 1955, with the help of Mamma Nunzia, he took over the kitchen in a restaurant in via Copernico.  Two years later in 1957, Nadia, a childhood friend moved to Milan and married Aimo and in 1962, they set up and ran their own restaurant in via Montecuccoli, where Il Luogo remains even today.

In early 2000, the Great Chefs television crew flew to Milan to tape Aimo for the Discovery Channel’s Great Chefs of the World series.  In 2014, Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia became a member of the Relais & Chateaux association, and today in 2016, Fabio Pisani & Alessandro Negrini run the kitchen, while Stefania, who is Aimo, and Nadia’s daughter, runs the restaurant.
