Chef Biography

Bo Wafford was born and raised in Northeast Texas where his father was a farmer.  Bo spent as much time during his youth picking cotton as he spent in school, but he was always an avid hunter, fisherman and cook. His desire to find adventure led him to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, spending 21 years and ending up as a pilot.

In 1974, he retired and became an international hunting guide in Australia, Alaska and Uruguay before ending up at the Y.O. Ranch in Mountain Home, Texas, which was owned by the Schreiner family.  The Great Chefs television crew caught up with Bo and his wife, Minnie, in 1986 at the Onion Creek Ranch in Buda, Texas where he was acting ranch manager.  They taped him barbecuing a brisket for the down-home section of the PBS series, Great Chefs of the West, episode # 20, and taped Minnie preparing a special barbecue sauce for episode # 22.

In 2011, Bo & Minnie semi-retired to spend time with their great grandchildren in Mt. Vernon, Texas, four miles from where Bo was born, and to write a book about his legendary experiences, titled “From First Life, To the Last Hunt”, now available at Amazon.
